Esther 4:1–17

Esther is the queen—but she didn't ask to be, and the crown doesn't protect her the way it looks like it should. When Mordecai tells her that her people are about to be destroyed, he asks her to go before the king uninvited, which is the kind of thing that gets you killed. His words cut through: Who knows? Perhaps you have come to royal dignity for just such a time as this. She goes. Week 5 of Found Family is our series finale—and it falls on July 4th weekend, as the United States marks 250 years. Esther's story feels close this summer: a story about living under empire and having to decide whether your safety is worth more than your people. She risks everything. She shows up. We close this series the same way we began it: with the claim that chosen family is real family—and sometimes the most faithful thing you can do is refuse to disappear. Join us July 5.
